If you are in the mood for a little childish fun, puppy love, and adventure, then the movie Moonrise Kingdom is most certainly for you. I went to the 5:30 showing tonight, and it certainly was not disappointing, as it lived up to all my expectations. Wes Anderson is one of my all-time favorite directors, with insane movies like The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Life Aquatic (just to name a few), and beautifully colored and formalist shots. His movies are pure enjoyment with sarcastic jokes and anything-from-bland characters.
Moonrise Kingdom is set on a distant island, so removed from the world that mail comes by plane and dirt roads are a means for transportation. The story is about two 12 year old lovers who go on an adventure together and find themselves falling madly in love. The movie uses bright, loud colors and beautiful panning transitions to tell a wonderful story!
Ah yes, and as for the movie’s costumes; they were incredible. The lead girl wore a collection of collared dresses, knee high lace socks and adorable saddle shoes, as the lead boy sported a fantastic little “khaki scout” uniform.
Make sure you go see the movie! It’s only playing in select theatres but I promise you it is worth it, as it takes the audience on a journey like never before (wow that was cheesy)! Buy tickets here!
