This past evening my friend and I were on our normal “let’s find a new, yummy looking place to eat” adventures when we came across Milon in the East Village. Located on 1st avenue between 5th and 6th streets, this restaurant ain’t your typical sit down joint! You enter the door into a whole new world where the entire ceiling is decorated with Christmas lights. It is so bright, almost to the point where it’s overwhelming, but just perfectly pleasing for a 2 hour dinner. Since we wandered in, there were many things about the restaurant that caught us by surprise, but lucky for you I’ve listed the main one’s below.
1. The food is cheap and cash only.
2. The restaurant is almost identical to its neighbor (and family rival). Men stand outside luring you in, trying to convince you that their version is better.
3. It’s BYOB- there’s a liquor store down the street if you forget, many people were running out amidst their meal to pick up booze
4. It’s a great place to go for a birthday, as they shut the lights off for a few minutes and turn the disco ball on while they sing (we got to experience this first hand).
Ok, now I know that from the things I’ve mentioned above it just sounds like a cheap, dirty, touristy, hole-in-the-wall but I PROMISE it was really yummy and worth trying! Now check out my pictures below!
